Task 1:
Describe two types of biases critics have leveled at Kohlberg's theory.
Gender and Cultural Bias. The study was only performed on male genders and not a single women was studied for this experiment. All of the male studies were based in the western hemisphere excluding any studies performed in the states or eastern hemisphere. Culture and genders differ from country to country for many different reasons.
Do you believe these criticisms are well grounded?
Yes the criticisms are well grounded because the outcome could have been very different because different religions and cultural morals will vary. The gender bias is also well grounded due to the fact that the female will develop faster morally and maturity wise than the average male.
Task 2:
Imaginary audience is when the teenager feels like the center of attention ans that everything is about them. That they should come before anything else and that they are always being watched and need to better than everyone else. This could come from self-consciousness, self absorption or distortion of body image. A personal fable is where the teenager is in denial. They believe that nothing can happen to them that could result as a consequence of their actions. Such as getting pregnant from unprotected sex or causing an accident from drinking. They believe that their parents don't understand what they're going through.

Task 3:
In the journal, The Teen Brain: Still Under Construction, it is shown that adolescent brains that although are still expanding and learning are still able to learn what is needed to be learned and to expand a social life while multitasking busy lives. The teens brain is full of "gray stuff" which translates to larger synaptic gaps in the brains neurons. Which means that the brain is still growing and figuring out how to process the information received. The brain responds differently to alcohol in a teenagers brain compared to an adult which could possibly lead to alcohol dependence later in life. The brain is still under construction in the adolescence years but is still able to conquer the teenage life. |
